Martin is an excellent instructor, he was very patient and calm when I made mistakes and went through exactly how to correct them. He prepared me very well, as his experience meant that he taught me exactly what was to come during the test which helped a lot with the nerves and meant that I passed first time. He ultimately taught me how to be a safe, independent driver in the future, and I would definitely recommend him to everyone.

I was a late starter at the ‘school of driving’. Over the years, I’d had numerous attempts to learn with other instructors, but none had ever lasted more than a couple of lessons because the chemistry just wasn’t there. Thankfully, at the ripe old age of 44, I was introduced to Martin, following a recommendation from a friend. It’s the best recommendation I could possibly have been given.

Learning to drive, particularly later in life, is as much a psychological challenge as it is a technical one. Confidence is everything and there’s also the danger that you ‘over-think’ things, which only makes the learning process harder. I’m convinced that the role of a driving instructor is part ‘teacher’ and part ‘therapist! Fortunately, I found the best one.

It goes without saying that Martin’s technical knowledge and expertise is brilliant. He’s a master of his craft. However, it’s his human qualities – and his ability to communicate that knowledge – that sets him apart and makes him such an incredible teacher. Martin has the perfect blend of patience, empathy and understanding. He provides the right balance of encouragement and critique, and underpins everything with a calmness and humour that genuinely puts you at ease. Best of all, he’s agile in his teaching – personalising lessons so that they focus on the areas most needing work, rather than simply following a preconceived template. Guildford is a much safer place because of the five consecutive weeks we spent simply doing roundabouts!

Martin’s approach builds confidence and helps overcome those psychological obstacles. And it works. Much to my surprise, after years of convincing myself I’d never be able to drive, I passed first time. That’s ultimately all down to Martin. I could not have wished for a better teacher. I’d recommend him to anyone.

Thanks to Martin I was able to pass my test first time, even with me being quite nervous, Martin has been able to build my confidence immensely , I would highly recommend. I couldn’t have found a better instructor! Thank you so much Martin.
